Opening a Bank Account
After landing in Canada, it is very important to open a bank account. For opening an account you need atleast
two pieces of identification (IDs). One must be a photo ID and one with your address in Canada. You can use your lease papers, telephone bill,etc as proof of address. Bank of Montreal did not accept my
back home passport as ID, but Royal Bank did. SIN Card is accepted as an ID, but Health Card is not accepted as an ID.
You don' t need to deposit a single penny for opening a bank account and you can open an account enen if you don't have a job.
You can cash a Government cheque up to $1500 for free at any bank.
