TRANSPORT:
In almost all cities, public transport is available. You may get information regarding fare, transit route, timing, transit map from web site of Transit Service of the respective city. Although it is the cheapest mode of transport, but it is time consuming and for job (including odd survival job) you may need car as work place may not be on transit route or it may be far away.
For car you need license. It will be a good idea if you visit the web site of driving licensing authority of the respective province for details and start preparations even before landing in Canada.
